Idris Elba on formerly selling drugs & working as a doorman to make ends meet:
“Yeah, it was, because I was running with cats. I mean, I was DJ’ing, but I was also pushing bags of weed; I was doing my work. I had to. I know that sounds corny, but this is the truth.” He says he’d sell drugs at Carolines, and meanwhile all these successful guys would come through: D. L. Hughley, Dave Chappelle. “All those black comedians, they knew me as a doorman.”
…on his legacy of playing Stringer Bell on HBO’s The Wire:
“That really is more about the writing of The Wire than it is the performance. You know, Stringer Bell is a great character that was written. I happened to play him, but it could’ve been anybody playing that role.”
You really feel like anybody could’ve played Stringer?
“Listen, I think I brought Stringer to life my way, but The Wire isn’t a classic because of Stringer Bell. The Sopranos was a classic because of Tony Soprano.”
…on finding out he was not the father of a boy he was calling his own:
“You know, the truth is—like, even admitting it, I’ll probably get laughed at for the rest of my life. But it is just tragic, and it happened.” He looks directly at me when he says this. “But I wasn’t knocked out. I stood right the fuck back up, and I ain’t aiming to take another punch in the face ever again. Do you understand what I’m saying? It happened to me. I moved on.”
In a paradoxical way, he says, it was freeing. “I’ve not been an angel in my life, either—do you know what I’m saying? So to a certain extent, what goes around comes around. But for me in the future, I’m about being comfortable. That’s it.”

BLUE CAPRICE
It’s been a minute since we’ve seen Isaiah Washington. Ever since his controversial/anti- gay comments surrounding his departure from “Grey’s Anatomy,” Washington has been kind of ghost. But his new film Blue Caprice, has many speculating that this is what will put him back on the map. In the film Washington plays the disturbing role of the infamous D.C. sniper, John Allen Muhammad. His young accomplice, Lee Boyd Malvo, will be played by 20 year old Tequan Richmond who many of us know from his role as “Drew” on the hit show “Everybody Hates Chris” and T.J. Ashford on the soap opera “General Hospital.” The story follows the two men, who entered into a faux father-son relationship as they terrorized D.C. metro area, killing 10 people and injuring 3 others back in 2002. The film, which debuted at Sundance, will be released in theaters on September 13 and VOD on September 17 - See more at: http://madamenoire.com/291675/isaiah-washington-portrays-d-c-sniper-in-blue-caprice-is-this-the-comeback-he-needed/#sthash.U0wfyt6v.dpuf
SNOOP LION AND FAMILY MAKE VIDEO
Rapper Snoop Lion has enlisted the help of his entire family for his new video. The video for the song, “The Good Good,” features Snoop, his wife and three children, Cordell, Corde and Cori Broadus.
Singer Mali Nicole also makes an appearance in the video as Cordell’s love interest. Cordell tries to win her heart with a necklace that he purchased from Overstock.com.
Snoop and family have teamed up with Overstock.com to feature some of the family’s favorite things (such as a Char-Broil Four-burner Kettle Grill and Miadora pink-gold earrings) in their online “Snoopermarket.”
The slow, cool reggae song is from Snoop’s album, ‘Reincarnated.’
ARSENIO HALL SHOW PREMIERES FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 13TH.
How fast time flies. After over a year of talking about it, the all-new The Arsenio Hall Show debuts nationwide, less than a week from today, on Monday, September 9 at 11pm here on the east coast (check local listings), on CBS.
Ahead of its debut, the network has revealed the new show's first week lineup of guests today, via press release.
"My first week of guests offers a taste of pop culture and represents the mix of talent I hope to have on my show every week," Hall said. "I am honored to welcome friends - both old and new - to my show. My goal is to have fun, make people laugh, and send viewers to bed with a smile on their face."
The premiere week schedule follows:
· Monday, Sept. 9: Chris Tucker.
· Tuesday, Sept. 10: Ice Cube, Lisa Kudrow and musical guest, rapper Mac Miller.
· Wednesday, Sept. 11: Magic Johnson, George Lopez, and musical guest, rapper Nas.
· Thursday, Sept. 12: Actor Mark Harmon from NCIS, magicians Penn & Teller, and musical guest, Earth, Wind, & Fire.
· Friday, Sept. 13: Angela Bassett and Simon Cowell's "X Factor" group, Emblem3 as musical guests. I'd assume Cowell will be there as well, if only to introduce the group.
But that's not all. Expect a number of surprise guests throughout premiere week, although no hints as to whom they might be.
Looking past premiere week, guests booked for the rest of the month of September include: Kendrick Lamar, Nick Cannon, Dr. Phil, Paula Patton, Melissa Leo, Djimon Hounsou, Seth Green, Giovanni Ribisi, Allison Janney, Anson Mount, Russell Simmons, 2 Chainz, Louie Anderson, Orlando Jones and many others.
The show is produced by Eye Productions Inc., in association with Arsenio Hall Communications Ltd. and Octagon Entertainment Productions, and distributed by CBS Television Distribution.
